Don Donaghy

I was fortunate enough to know Don in our art school days, mid to late 50s. Don seemed to live on a different plane...not in an affected way, but rather as one who had arrived from another galaxy, seeing and speaking in ways that were unfamiliar. He was naturally gentle and self-effacing, but quietly earnest in his approach to a
 
 Photography was his natural medium, and his only rival was our classmate, George Krause, an acknowledged master.Don was proud of the fact that his images were uncropped, exactly as he had seen them in the viewfinder.
 
I lost touch through the 60s and 70s, finally contacting Don in Boulder. Don was as pure and committed to Buddhism as he had been to Photography. Sadly, the latter interest took him from his camera, and it was several decades before he resumed his art. Nothing but time had been lost. His gift was intact, but time was running out.
 
I have not met his like in my 71 years. I don't believe that anyone who met him could have anything but love and admiration for him.
