As a research mathematician Newcomb Greenleaf was exploring the possibility of a non-dual approach to mathematics when he met his root teacher Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1974. Trungpa encouraged him to leave academia and to teach the dharma. Newcomb has participated in the dialogues between science and Buddhism at Naropa University and in the Mind and Life program with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and his dharma teaching reflects his engagement with science. He has also studied with Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso, Tsoknyi Rinpoche, Pema Chödron, and most recently with Ken McLeod. He and Ditty now live in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, where, along with teaching and writing, study and practice, he enjoys hiking the White Mountains with his dogs, Losar and SoSo.
