The Sakyong Wangmo Empowerment

A photo essay by Marvin Moore

"When a kingdom is ruled by a group of men, misunderstandings easily arise. The kingdom might find itself faced with problems of too much bureaucracy, or too much emphasis on efficiency...So it is necessary to have a Sakyong Wangmo to join this group of individuals together. Just as water binds yeast and flour together to make bread, the Sakyong Wangmo will bind the disparate elements of the kingdom together to create a spirit of warriorship." -Chogyam Trungpa

Returning home in the midnight raindrops of Sakyong Wangmo goodness

By Alice Haspray

Today doesn’t fit into words. My emotions were dragons of longing. Seeing His Holiness Penor Rinpoche ascending the throne with all of his heart and all his effort—helped by all of his monks. So frail and so much lungta. Bestowing this empowerment was the meteoric iron aspiration of his lungta heart. It took all of his strength.....continued

Khandro-la transforms into the Sakyong Wangmo

By Carol Johnstone

Yesterday, Shambhala received a new Queen. As the Sakyong said later that evening at a celebration party for the investiture and empowerment, even though everyone had been calling his wife the Sakyong Wangmo, she wasn't until His Holiness Penor Rinpoche put the crown on her.....continued

Sad joy

By Alice Haspray

Sunday was the day that Lady Diana became Druk Sakyong Wangmo. Powerful and tender in her formal military uniform. I felt more than thirty-five years of being in her presence, and that feeling was more than memory. Her smile, her eyes—each time I see her, I feel the Druk Sakyong's heat. It is tangible in my heart. I want more of her and more of him. Khandro Tseyang was radiant and open sitting on her chair facing the dragon queen.....continued

Garden Party at the Court

By Carol Johnstone

It couldn't have been a better afternoon. After days and days of rain, this one afternoon was sunny and just the right temperature. People gathered and hob-knobbed for an hour or so drinking sangria punch and eating cakes and cookies. Then the principals came out to sit under their pavilions. Toasts were made and we were treated to another performance by cellist Claudio Bohorquez.....continued

Sakyong Wangmo Empowerment

August 16, 2008

This morning during Rigden guru yoga
the Sadhana
Streams through my mind.
A river of radiance,
clear,
true,
Rain of blessings ringing out mingling with tears
Becoming the river.
Then out of Vajrasattva's white peace I see a woman
alone,
proud and vulnerable,
ready,
walking up to the front door at Karme Choling,
standing and waitng.
bare feet.
Her beauty and grace take my breath away!
Not too loudly so as not to disturb practice,
wanting to disturb practice,
Mark calls up to the window,
"There's an eagle and two osprey flying overhead!"

with gratitude,
Megan Godfrey

What beautiful photos. It's so nice to see the event today and not have to wait for 2 or 3 months before photos trickle out to the sangha on the outskirts of Halifax. What delight. Thank you again! Cheers, Tracy Suchocki
