Jim Hartz was a wonderful friend ever since I met him in San Francisco in the late 1970s or early 1980s. We went to poetry readings and then thoroughly critiqued the world problems so rampant at the time. He was a very creative conversationalist and had a terrific way of analyzing political bullshit that tore to the heart of the matter. He also wrote brilliant concise poems on these matters, and always with a lively Buddhist outlook. I remember eating some psilocybin mushrooms with him and Laughing for hours at our shared understanding of our poetic/political/human condition in the world.... When he was Director of The Poetry Center in San Francisco Jim very kindly got me a reading there. If anyone is doing a collection of his poems, I have copies of a few of them, and would be happy to share them... I remember Jim Hartz very fondly...
