Andrea and I were friends for many years, first in Boulder and then later when we both lived in Washington, DC, where Andrea had a photography internship at National Geographic and worked at US News & World Report. She was talented, intelligent and intrepid. As one of the group of early sangha photographers, almost everyone has seen her work, most notably because she generously donated her photographs to the organization. In recent years, Andrea kept her health struggles mostly to herself, preferring to quietly meet challenges, overcome obstacles and lead her life fully. I greatly admired her courage. And, of course, she was a devoted student of the Vidyadhara--the Buddhadharma and the Shambhala teachings.
