The Life of Caroll Edward Brosious

Cary was an ebullient human being, bursting with vigor, love, joy, humor and wit. Cary was a devoted husband and father, an amazing cook, and a highly skilled healer, specializing in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. He brought physical and mental relief to hundreds of dedicated patients. Cary was devoted student of the lineage of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and a dedicated student of Aikido. He was a member of the Aikido of Westchester, where he earned a first-degree black belt.
Cary was born in Washington DC on November 22 of 1951 and was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland and lived in Silver Spring until 1971 when he spent a year in Israel. Cary joined the Divine Light Mission, with guru Maharaji, and moved into their ashram in Washington DC in 1973. In 1974, Cary went to Nova Scotia to visit his future wife, and he ended up living here instead of returning to DC. Cary moved back to Boston in 1976 to earn a degree in Acupuncture from NESA (New England school of Acupuncture. During this time, he managed the Erewhon Health Food Store and completed EST training, which he later helped bring to Nova Scotia. Cary met His Holiness the Sixteenth Karmapa in 1977 in Boston and then moved back to Nova Scotia where he welcomed the birth of his only son, Asa in 1979.
Cary first connected with Trungpa Rinpoche and his community in 1983. He received the refuge name of Glorious Sangha from Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. In 1992, Cary attended the Vajradhatu Seminary at Rocky Mountain Dharma Center in Colorado and received Vajrayana transmission in the tradition of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. During this time, Cary developed his healing practice, and became a well-respected acupuncturist serving the Annapolis Valley, north of Halifax. He also studied in China to deepen his practice in 2000.
In 2001, Cary moved to Yonkers, New York, to take up a position at Greyston Foundation’s newly opened Matri Adult Day Care Center and Greyston Health Services Affordable Living Community for persons living with AIDS. He quickly became a pivotal reference point of that community. During this time, he also taught at the Eastern School of Acupuncture in Bloomfield, NJ from 2005 to 2008. After about 8 years at Greyston, Cary left to start his private practice specializing in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal medicine, with offices in Hastings and Dobbs Ferry.
In 2001 Cary met his future wife Tamara and they were married in 2009. They were blessed by the birth of their daughter Natasha in 2005. The family moved to Chestnut Ridge, New York, in 2015 to enjoy closer access to nature and a growing local community, where they lived for 10 years. Cary is survived by his wife Tamara, daughter Heather, son Asa, daughter Natasha and sister Jean.
