John was the embodiment of the Kusung way of warriorship. He was steady, awake, attentive and kind to all he encountered - starting of course with the Vidyadahra and extending to all who entered into the precincts of the Court. I especially respected and honored his unflappable presence - in any and all situations. I'm sure there was more going on 'inside' but John never allowed his own dramas to taint the experience of being listened to and served elegantly. I recall pointing to him as a training example. As Kusung Dapön I needed to be aware and responsive to the various ripples in the stream as best I could. John was a cool pond of reliable steadiness whom I know the Dorje Dradul looked forward to working with as much as I did. He was quiet but not reticent - well put together, but not a show off, ready, ready, ready. I only wish that John was able to be of more regular service than his life circumstance would allow from his base on the west coast. Ki ki John, just sharing these few thoughts brings a tear to my eye and a sigh in my heart...another blade of Mukpo grass touches the field of our well served path...Marty KDKK ret.
