Many years ago I went to Big Bear California for a weekend of teachings given by Thrangu Rinpoche. During one of the talks Rinpoche said: “You will never become enlightened if you have strong attachments.” At the end of the talk he took questions . I raised my hand and he called on me. I said:” Rinpoche I will never get enlightened because I am so attached to to my children.. do you have any advice for me as to how to lessen my attachment to my children ?” He looked at me and said: “ Oh you’re a mother. You’re supposed to be attached to your children. Don’t worry, that’s not a problem.” And then he started to laugh.
