Martin Janowitz, Warrior General of the Kalapa Shambhala Society, and chairman of the Naropa University Board of Trustees, has a long-standing involvement with environmental issues. He is the Vice President of Sustainability for Jacques Whitford, a Halifax-base engineering firm and a former Executive Director of Clean Nova Scotia. As a close attendant and one of the principal leaders of the Dorje Kasung, Martin was intimately involved in caring for the Vidyadhara during the Parinirvana, and during the time leading up to the cremation.
