"When we practice ngondro, we truly step into and connect with the Longchen Nyingtik lineage. It is with this practice that we will put down the roots of Dharma in our mind, and in the West." --Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche

Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche leads an annual ngondro practice retreat at Pema Osel in Vermont with the aim of increasing our understanding and experience of this profound preliminary practice. Each day will be divided into two main sessions, with Rinpoche leading the practice, giving talks and readings, and senior students providing supplementary support.

In addition, Rinpoche will offer his annual reading and transmission of The Words of My Perfect Teacher at this retreat as a way to contextualize the ngondro practice. The Words of My Perfect Teacher was written in the nineteenth century by Patrul Rinpoche, in his retreat cave high in the mountains of Tibet. His observations about the human condition and his steadfast encouragement to spiritual practice in the Longchen Nyingtik tradition are so direct that even today when reading the text, it feels as if he is speaking straight to us. Rinpoche’s reading will be interspersed throughout the retreat as a way to blend the rich Longchen Nyingtik lineage’s hearing wisdom into our ngondro practice. All attendees are encouraged to bring a copy of The Words of My Perfect Teacher.
