Dear Sangha,
Bart had been fighting liver and bile duct cancers since last fall. He had been in the hospital since Monday, July 17 and it quickly became clear that he was not going to recover from this episode, and after a few days he entered hospice. Bart passed away on July 28, around 6 pm surrounded by his wife, daughters (Claire and Vee) and new son-in-law (Tyler) and Irene Woodard and myself. He was given the traditional instructions for the time of death by his wife and daughters, and by me. After a while I read the Sadhana of Mahamudra and we all practiced together. Another important piece of this story is that his daughter, Veronica aka Vee, was married in DC on July 9. This was a wonderful, joyous celebration and Bart was fully alive, rich and vivid, giving a beautiful, full-hearted welcome toast to the 200+ guests.
